About The Candlelit Historian
The Candlelit Historian makes long, calm history documentaries for sleep, study and quiet evenings. Each episode is a two to three hour narrated journey through real history, told slowly and in order, with named places, dates and a full source list.
The format follows a few simple rules: a predictable structure, a slow, even voice, no sudden sounds, no cliffhangers, and dim, still images. It is entertainment and education, not medical advice or treatment.
How each episode is made
- Research from public-domain texts and current reference sources, collected for each episode.
- A script written for listening, then checked claim by claim against those sources before recording. Legends are told as legends, and uncertain facts are hedged.
- Narration by an AI text-to-speech voice (Kokoro TTS), disclosed in every video.
- Images: the author's own photographs taken on visits to the places, public-domain paintings, prints and photochroms from museums and archives, and a few licensed stock photographs. Credits are listed on each episode page.
- Original music, kept low and even.
